Filipino Style Mackerel

Filipino Style Mackerel (Paksiw na Isda) or Fish Cooked in Vinegar is a quick and easy seafood dish that is said to be one of the common everyday dishes prepared by Filipino families. it also usually includes vegetables like bitter melon but it is optional. I have not added in any vegetables. Fish sauce is also can be added in the recipe if you like it, it is optional ingredient. In this recipe i have used Mackerel fish it  can be done with other types of fishes .



6 pieces fish 

1 knob ginger sliced

8 cloves garlic skin removed  

1/2 cup vinegar

1 cup water

4 medium onion sliced

5-6 pieces finger chili

2 teaspoon salt

teaspoon whole peppercorn 

  • Heat a cooking pot then pour-in vinegar and water.

  • Add salt and whole peppercorn then stir. Bring to a boil.

  • Arrange the fish in the pan along with the ginger, garlic, onion,  and  whole green chili. Cover and simmer in low to medium heat till fish is cooked .

  • Turn off the heat and transfer to a serving plate.

  • Serve hot with steamed rice. Share and enjoy!
