Beef Croquettes

Beef Croquettes

Beef croquettes are the my favorite tea time snacks. I remember my granny, whenever she use to go to Margoa she use to bring this Beef Croquettes and Beef pastry from one of the famous bakery in Margao known as Cafe Jackris Margoa, and from then till now in my family everyone brings these whenever we go to Margoa, Also in my in laws place its the same. Now since we stay in Dubai whoever comes to Dubai from Goa brings it . After coming to Dubai i started missing Goan food and i started making it by myself .

Beef croquettes are very famous in Goa . No feasts, weddings , parties are complete without croquettes.

Ingredients

500 grams Beef Mince (ground beef)

4 tbsp Vinegar

  •  1 tsp Salt

  •  6 cloves garlic (Finely chopped)

  •  1 tsp Ginger garlic paste

  •  1 tsp turmeric powder

  •  1 tsp Chili powder

  •  1/2 tsp Cumin powder

  •  1/2 tsp Garam masala powder

  • 3 medium sized Onion (chopped)

  • 1 tomato chopped

  • 5 Goan pork sausages (optional)

  •  3 tbsp Oil

  • 1 Egg

  • 4 tbsp Coriander (chopped)

  • 1 Green chili (Finely chopped)

  •  4 Slices of bread (grind in mixer to form fresh breadcrumbs)

  • For Deep frying Croquettes:-

  •  1 Eggs

  •  Fine semolina/ rawa or breadcrumbs (as required)

  •  Oil (to deep fry)

  • Method

  • Apply the masala , ginger garlic paste and salt leave it to marinate for 30 minutes.

  • Heat oil in a vessel. Fry the onions till golden brown. Add the chopped tomato and cook till they become soft and mushy . Add the marinated mince and the Goan sausages. Mix well. (Addition of Goan sausages gives a different to the taste). Cover and cook for 20 minutes till done. Don't add water, let the mince cook in its own . Keep stirring it occasionally in between.

  • Adjust the salt. Let the water completely evaporate, then Put off flame. Keep mince aside to cool down completely.

  • Once the mince is cooled, add the breadcrumbs to it and mix well. (I used slice bread and toasted it in electric toaster and then ground it in blender.)

  • Next, grind the mince mixture in food processor or mixer blender . Add the egg, coriander leaves, vinegar and chilies. Mix well.

  •  Shape each portion into croquette. put in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes so its easy to dip it later in egg wash.  You can freeze the croquettes in a container for 2 months, and fry them whenever you want .

  • Dip croquettes in egg and then dip in semolina or breadcrumbs.   Deep fry the croquettes.

  • Remove croquettes on absorbent paper. Beef Croquettes are ready to serve.
