Sheera

Sheera

My grandmother taught  me to make this sheera  when i was small.   During evening tea times we use to enjoy this sheera. This is the first thing i learnt in cooking at very small age and developed interest in cooking.  She taught me easy and fast snacks recipes which i still remember and make them for my kids.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Ghee
  •  2 tbsp Cashew nuts
  •  1/2 cup semolina
  •  2 cloves
  • 2 cardamom
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/4 cup  sugar
  •  1/2 tsp Salt
  •  Drop of Yellow food coloring
  •
  • Directions
  • In a pan roast the semolina along with the cloves and cardamom  on a low flame till you get a nice aroma of the cloves and semolina . This will take about 5 mins. Remove Semolina from pan and keep aside.
  • In the same pan,  add 1 tsp ghee, fry the nuts till nuts turn light brown in color.
  • Now add the roasted semolina to the pan and add ghee and mix well till the ghee is melted on low flame. Add the sugar, salt, color (if you dont have color turmeric can be used but a small tiny pinch, if u put more then it will change the flavor and spoil taste of sheera)  and mix well . Now add water and keep steering as it will become thick soon, see that it will not form lumps.  Sheera is done once it all comes together, starts leaving the pan and forms a ball.
  • For plating,  put sheera in a bowl and using back of  spoon with little ghee on it, spread it equally. Now turn the bowl upside down on a plate to get a nice shape.
  • Serve at breakfast time or evening tea time. Enjoy!
